God's Mouthpiece by Elise555 God's Mouthpiece by Elise555
This is a part of my 'photographing stuff everyday to practise editing skills' - I am really bad at doing it everyday...but I don't want it to start turning into a chore...if it's a chore, then there's no point in doing it! there will be more pictures from the book up in a bit ^_^

This is a page from the book 'Sophie's World' which is an awesome book, by the way, and a good read for budding philosophers as it explains the history of philosophy and where it originated. This particular page is explaining how Baruch Spinoza thought that the Bible is not God's words down to every last part and that Jesus was simply 'God's mouthpiece', therefore, the Bible can be interpretted in many ways and Spinoza personally interpretted the text differently to how the Christians and Jewish preached, therefore, he was excommunicated (he was a former Jew) and his family tried to disinherit him, thus leaving him to lead a 'life devoted to philosophy' (Well, that's only brief explanation and sounds illogical but...I can't explain it all here...READ THE BOOK if you want a better explanation XD)

Just to clarify, I am not of any religion...I am sort of an... agnostic who sway towards the atheism side of the argument, however, I am partial to other views and feel that the answer can never be found, therefore I cannot strongly take a side in the argument for or against the existence of God.

Anyways, now that I've ranted at you about something that I DOUBT people will read...meh...)

Very nice picture! I might have to read "Sophie's World" on your blessing-- is it really quite good? Why did you like it so much?

Hehe, I found it good due to the way it explained each of the philosophers and what they thought, in a logical order, and it really helps explain it to the reader, because all of the philosophy is in letter form, as it's a correspondant sending the character in the book (Sophie) the letters about the philosophers, so it is quite personable (aas thoguh the correspondance is talking to you).

However, it's not to some peoples' taste, as it isn't a particularly 'light' read (I kept having to re-read chapters until it got into my head XD) but I'd certainly consider giving it a shot if philosophy interests you! :)

Whoops, almost written a whole book review...you can probably tell I take philosophy as well as English literature... >.<'

Sounds very interesting indeed! I think I'll look into it. (:

Yes, philosophy does very much interest me. ;) I do enjoy discussions of that nature, as a seeker after truth myself.

Haha, don't worry about it! It was indeed pretty clear that you take philosophy, though I wouldn't have guessed English literature from the get-go. ;P

I appreciate the recommendation. (:
